Aims and Scope


Educational Methods and Psychometrics® (EMP) aims to provide a platform for the dissemination of methodological innovations and applications in in the fields of education, psychology, health sciences, and other areas of the social sciences. The major focus of the journal is the development and application of statistical and psychometric methods in the social sciences; however, it is open to qualitative methods as well.

Research Articles

The journal publishes original research articles in which new methodological approaches in data analysis and measurement in the educational and psychological sciences are used. It accepts diverse manuscripts on data analysis, statistical techniques, and construction/validation of tests using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Review articles of modern and important methodological issues are also accepted.

Rapid Communications

EMP also welcomes rapid communications or brief reports of under 2000 words on the application of modern measurement models and statistical techniques.

Tutorials

EMP also seeks to publish instructional articles or tutorials focused on data analysis and psychometrics. The purpose of these articles is to enhance readers' comprehension and application of data analysis techniques, research methodology, and psychometrics. These articles should be designed for learners and include step by step guidelines including concrete empirical examples with real or simulated data sets and software code to assist applied researchers. It is strongly advised that the example data sets used in these articles be made publicly accessible.
